What is a bbs file and how do I open a bbs file?
The BBS file extension is appended to a text file containing descriptions, messages and metadata details formatted for BBS programs. This file format was used in Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs), but was later discontinued and abandoned. There are many BBS applications in existence, and most are classified into two kinds, namely Active Software and Classic Software. Active Software is software that is currently in use and supported by various websites, while Classic Software is software that has been discontinued and phased out. BBS files can still be used by certain online BBS networks as files transmitted between members in the form of Private Messages (PMs) and as files used by administrators for entering, removing or modifying certain metadata details of a page in the BBS-powered website, but most Web forums and other social communities on the Internet implement modern BBS applications into their websites. This means BBS files are text files that have been integrated with formatting attributes and text layout characteristics available in old BBS software embedded with support for .bbs files, though most modern BBS applications no longer use .bbs files.
